With the release of 4:44, Jay-Z put everyone, from his critics to Eric Benét​, on notice. While the R&B crooner opted to applaud Jay's latest effort rather than throw subtle shots back, it appears as though fellow industry mate Cam'ron is prepping to retaliate. 

While Cam and Jay have a checkered history of feuding, perhaps the hip-hop titans could be revisiting their past. 

In dropping a surprisingly great album at age 47, a rejuvenated Hov came prepared with ammunition for his naysayers, which included a brief honorable mention on "Moonlight." Using the signature "huh!" ad-lib from his frenemy Kanye West, Jay came pretty direct: "Look, I know killers, you no killer, huh?!" It was seen by most as a reference to Kanye's infamous rant from the Saint Pablo Tour, in which he pleaded with his labelmate, "I know you got killers please don't send 'em at my head, just call me. Talk to me like a man."

Jay's mastery of the double entendre, however, allows for the lyric to be interpreted as a jab towards Killa Cam for his perceived affiliation with Ye. In the past, Yeezy has shown love to the Harlemite on wax, claiming to dress North West similarly to the rapper's gaudy style. Also, who could forget their classic exchange on "Down and Out"?

Not being one to shy away from controversy, Cam took to Instagram last week to share a snippet of his new material. The "you no/know killer/Killa" line kicks off the track and there's even another callback to "Moonlight" at the end of the sequence, when Cam'ron references Jay's line about Michael Jackson, saying, "R.I.P. to Mike but I'm the real Thriller." 

Cam'ron does explain, however, that he's not interested in any beef with "the family," but the fact that he wasn't willing to let bygones be bygones is very telling. With Hov and Killa no longer occupying the same lane, it's important to note that perhaps the rapper just wanted the big homie to know he's always listening.
