Top Dawg Entertainment’s lady of song SZA and her “Best New Artist” loss to Alessia Cara at the 2018 Grammys helped fuel the internet’s #JusticeForSZA movement.

Not that she saw it or anything, though. The CTRL songstress took a little break from the internet to let the Grammys buzz and her emotions die down some, but keeps her support for the Best New Artist winner alive in a new GQ interview.

SZA shared post-Grammys updates with the men’s magazine in an exclusive feature titled “The New Soul of SZA.” In it, she discusses being shut out of five Grammy nominations, a deplorable disappointment for her fans. So disappointing, in fact, that they whipped backlash at Alessia for succeeding in the Best New Artist category over SZA.

“The only time I ever heard about it was in person, when someone walked up to me and was like, ‘You were robbed’ or whatever the f**k,” she told GQ. “I was like, ‘I feel you.’ My home girl actually showed me Alessia [Cara]’s post and I thought, ‘This is really crazy.’”

The post she’s referring to can be found on Alessia’s Instagram where she addresses the critics who hampered her over the win. SZA never supported the backlash, though, despite admitting that she didn’t “want to say something that would reflect [her] being mad as hell.” She feels blessed more than anything now, however.

“If anything, I feel compelled to express that I really, really f**k with Alessia Cara,” she said. “She’s beautiful as f**k, her voice is like water, it’s like milk, I think she’s gorgeous. It has so much dimension, and she deserves every accolade that she gets. And people can’t be mad. I don’t give a f**k when her album came out! She sounds great right now!”

SZA encouraged everyone to move on in the meantime, acknowledging her blessings despite the Grammys loss.

Thankfully, the “Broken Clocks” songstress is setting the example by taking a higher road than some.
