[UPDATE] Disturbing New Details Revealed in Late NFL Star Will Smith's Murder Case
It has been nearly two months since former NFL star Will Smith was murdered in a senseless road-rage incident in New Orleans.
In the time since, a loaded gun was found in the late New Orleans Saints' Super Bowl winner's car and that Cardell Hayes, the man accused of gunning Smith down, was indicted by a grand jury on a second-degree murder charge and also an attempted second-degree murder charge for shooting Smith's wife, Racquel, twice in the legs.
But now new details have emerged in the case that might have you changing your opinions about that fateful April 9 night that left Smith, 34, dead.
NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune reported Tuesday that Smith's blood-alcohol content that night was 0.24 percent, which is three times Louisiana's legal limit of 0.08 percent. This is according to sources speaking under anonymity, but with knowledge of Smith's toxicology results, which haven't been made public yet.
This revelation combined with the loaded gun found in Smith's car could be used as part of Hayes's self-defense stance as soon as Wednesday, when Hayes is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing.
Remember, the murder took place following a rear-ending accident in which Smith's Mercedes-Benz smashed into Hayes's Hummer, before Hayes's vehicle struck Smith's SUV while in pursuit. The confrontation ended with Hayes opening fire on Smith, striking him eight times and Racquel twice.
Although Smith's family lawyer, Peter Thomson, didn't immediately return NOLA.com's messages to comment about the toxicology results, he did previously state that his late client wasn't "inebriated to the point" of not being able to drive, according to The Times-Picayune.
Does the toxicology report results change your opinion about the case at all?
