Amy Winehouse's Dad to Launch Foundation

Mitch Winehouse seeks to help addicts afford private care.

While still grieving over the loss of his daughter, Amy Winehouse, Mitch Winehouse has come up with a way to honor the celebrated singer. The BBC reports that at Amy's funeral, Mitch said there was a lack of help for addicts seeking treatment. He said that Amy had “conquered” her battles with drugs, but still had been “trying hard to deal with her drinking.”

"If you cannot afford a private rehabilitation clinic," Mitch said, "there is a two-year waiting list for help." Hoping to now help others, he says he will start a foundation in the memory of his daughter. The foundation already has the backing of Keith Vaz, a member of Parliament. “I am very happy to help Mitch in any way I can with his important campaign to help rehabilitate those most vulnerable in our society," Vaz said.

Another group has also lent their support. Charity DrugScope chief executive Martin Barnes added, "Many in the drug treatment sector will welcome Mitch Winehouse's ambition to help young people struggling with drug problems, following the untimely death of his daughter, Amy."
