Meek Mill And Justin Timberlake Unite In New ‘Believe’ Single

The duo conveys deeply moving messages of redemption, homage and bravery for the single and visual.

In their first-ever collaboration, Philly MC Meek Mill and pop-R&B favorite Justin Timberlake have teamed up for the Dreamchasers Records honcho’s latest release, “Believe.”

  • Meek previously teased the collaboration back in December of 2019 after he posted a black-and-white snippet from behind the scenes of the music video’s shoot to his Instagram page. One day prior to the song’s release, he alerted fans the record was dropping soon where he wrote, “this song for motivational purposes only!”

  • As promised, the 4-minute track arrived early on the morning of Friday (Feb. 7), accompanied by a deeply stirring visual. Directed by Maxime Quoilin, the music video follows a family who is torn apart after the father is stripped away from his family. The mother and daughter watchs on in tears as he was taken away in handcuffs. As the father serves out his prison sentence, the daughter channels her grief into a boxing career.

  • Timberlake anchors the chorus as Meek deftly weaves his own harrowing prison ordeal over a haunting gospel beat and paints an uplifting message of overcoming adversity to reach your dreams.

“Follow your dreams not your addictions, how we gon' follow our dreams locked in a prison? They tried to swallow me whole, God be my witness,” he raps. “Deprive me outta my dreams but I'm relentless.”

  • In the final moments of the video, the father and daughter are reunited in one of the visual’s most emotional scenes. The video ends with a Bible reading of the Judgement Day passage from the Book of Luke where a woman recites: “There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what will come of the world. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift your heads because your redemption is coming.”

Meek also pays homage to Slauson’s guardian angel and hip-hop’s beloved late rap artist, Nipsey Hussle, donning a chain adorned with his image. This comes after Meek’s tribute to Nip at the 2020 Grammys, which was followed by the consequent release of “Letter To Nipsey.”

“Believe” also marks Timberlake’s musical return in a while, who released his last body of work, Man of the Woods, in 2018.
