Exclusive: Miami Police Share Details On Yung Miami’s Car Shooting And Confirm Official Investigation
The Miami-Dade Police Department has confirmed with BET.com that they have launched an investigation into a recent shooting involving Caresha “Yung Miami” Brownlee, one half of rap duo City Girls, following reports that the rapper’s vehicle was shot up early Tuesday morning (August 6).
Public Information Officer Angel Rodriguez said that the vehicle Yung Miami was traveling in, a red Mercedes G-Wagon, was shot at “multiple times” near the intersection of NW 135th Street and 1st Avenue in North Miami.
“The vehicle was shot at multiples,” Rodriguez said. “I cannot confirm that she [Yung Miami] was in the vehicle at the time.”
No one has been arrested in connection with the shooting so far, but the police are exhausting every possible lead they have to get to the bottom of the case.
"Our detectives are working any and all possible leads that they have,” Rodriguez said over the phone. “We have no suspects right now.”
The Miami-Dade police responded swiftly to the report of shots being fired. Rodriguez said multiple police units, including investigative teams, were immediately dispatched to the scene early Tuesday morning after the incident was called in at 12:57 a.m. They arrived at the scene within two to three minutes of the call. Thankfully, no one was injured. Rodriguez did not confirm who called in the incident or if anyone else was present in the car.
The police are keeping details under wraps as the investigation is ongoing.
Harrowing clips of the incident also surfaced online early this morning that showed Brownlee talking with the police in front of a stop sign. In another clip, she can be heard describing what happened to her boyfriend, 808 Mafia producer Southside, who she is currently expecting her second child with.
According to unofficial reports, Brownlee was leaving a recording studio in the area when another vehicle pulled up behind and started randomly firing at her car.
“They just started shooting. They had the lights off so I never saw them. Whoever it was, they kept the lights off. I don’t know where they came from,” Brownlee recounts to Southside.
”It came from behind. The shots were shot from behind me. They shot it from behind me because when I got to the stop sign, I said, ‘Oh sh*t, somebody shooting.’ The first shot hit…and then I don’t know how the shots came from the side of me…”
