Lil Wayne Is the Latest Rapper to Score a Mobile App

He's looking to use his love for skateboarding to inspire kids to stay out of trouble.

Lil Wayne’s latest business endeavor just might be his favorite passion project to date.

Showcasing his love for skateboarding, the New Orleans-born rapper is teaming up with technology company Utility to create a new world entirely his own in his Sqvad Up mobile game.

Wayne took to Instagram to make the announcement, posting an audio clip of him introducing the project with an animated version of himself holding a skateboard. Beginning with his trademark lighter flick, Weezy inhales, exhales and shares his news with a warm “welcome to Hollygrove.”

The game, set to be available on June 10, is an “action-packed game that celebrates the Hip-Hop icon’s love for the thrill of skateboarding.”

"I’m super excited to drop my first mobile skateboarding game Lil Wayne: Sqvad Up as a way to share my passion for skateboarding,” the rapper said in a press release. “It’s also special to celebrate all that makes my home of Hollygrove and New Orleans such a dope place.”

“I started skateboarding at 29, not just because I thought it looked cool, but also because I wanted to be able to inspire kids to get outside and play,” he continues. “Skating is a perfect way for kids today to stay out of trouble and be positive and active.”

Taking his interest in skateboarding a step further, the rapper also has created a skate team comprised of six skaters that he is mentoring.
