Breaking up is hard to do, but Niecy Nash is here to give you a pep talk and help you muster the strength to move on. In a piece written for Essence.com, The Soul Man actress dishes her advice on why it's important to step away from the pity party, let the past go, and have the best break up ever.

"I once dated a guy for a year and had to be honest with myself: we did not want the same thing. That's the first step — HONESTY. You have to walk in the truth," Nash writes. "The second step is believing that the universe has someone great for you! However, God will never send you His best when you are not at your best...so get yourself together! Lastly, this is something new for you: decide to have the best break up ever. I know it sounds crazy at first but I've actually tried it."

Nash then explains how she let herself wallow after a breakup and did what so many women often do when a relationship is over: hole herself up, call up the girlfriends and rehash what went wrong with their boo. She finally decided to shake it off and end things amicably with her soon-to-be-ex…by inviting him to Hawaii to break things off.

"We celebrated the good things we brought into each other's lives, the things we learned about ourselves, and gave each other permission to go in peace," she writes before encouraging readers to follow suit and exit a relationship with grace.
