Wiz Khalifa Loses Two Taylor Gang Members
Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang is looking a little lighter these days. Rapper Lola Monroe and in-house producer Cardo are no longer on the roster, a company executive confirmed in a statement to XXL.
"After years of helping build their careers, we did not feel as if the relationships were mutually beneficial," the statement reads. "We wish LoLa and Cardo the best but hope they move on in their respective directions without affiliating themselves to the Taylor Gang brand or name."
Although both were tied to the TG squad, neither had signed contracts, according to a label rep. It is unclear whether the two were dropped or left the label, but according to Monroe’s tweet, the whole story isn't out. "Talk about n---as love flippen s--t..Lol not more than the media #Hilarious,” she wrote yesterday (Sept. 17).
Monroe, 26, got her start as a model and frequent music video star under the moniker Angel Lola Luv. She joined Khalifa's imprint two years ago, and called her ex-boss a "positive free individual that's about his business." During an October 2011 interview with Atlanta's V103 radio station, she said, "When he reached out, he was like, 'I feel as though our movements represent the same thing, so I want you to rep Taylor Gang.' And I agreed, so it’s only right ... Plus, out of all the situations that came to me, my business instincts and just the comfort level, I felt it was just the right move with him. He’s a stand-up dude and it just felt right."
Two less people on the team doesn’t mean things are all bad for the Taylor Gang crew. Signee Juicy J’s Stay Trippy debut sold 64,000 copies in its first week, landing at No. 4 on the Billboard album charts earlier this month.
