Donald Glover to Voice Miles Morales in Ultimate Spider-Man
The Internet asked, and the Internet shall receive. After years of online campaigning by fans wanting to see Donald Glover in the Spider-man costume, the Community actor has been cast to voice the Marvel superhero in Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors. According to USA Today, Glover will join the series as Miles Morales during the "Spider-Verse" arc set for 2015.
Glover's dance with the popular comic book character began in 2010, when The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb was looking for a star for his franchise reboot. Glover, a vocal fan of the character, received a groundswell of support on social media from fans who wanted to see him as the first Black Spider-man.
While the role eventually went to Andrew Garfield, Glover did become the inspiration for Miles Morales, who became the latest iteration of the webbed hero in 2011. Glover tells USA Today that part of the reason why he loves the character is, “he can be anybody.” The actor adds, “Spider-Man could be a girl. Spider-Man could be an old man. You don’t know. So I just tried to be as me as possible, because you’re always just going to bring it back to yourself when you watch the show.”
No word on whether Glover's involvement with the animated series will translate to him playing Miles Morales on the big screen, but he's certainly headed in that direction.
