Janet Jackson's Billboard Music Awards Performance Is Living Proof That Black Does Not Crack
In what might be one of music and entertainment mogul Janet Jackson’s most overdue awards, the Jackson family heiress accepted the honorary 2018 Icon Award after smashing the Billboard Music Awards stage on Sunday evening (May 20).
Janet rocked the crowd with just two songs, but timeless classics, from her decades-long vault: “Nasty” and “Throb.” Complete with her high-powered dance troupe, Damita Jo busted out ravishing moves across her dazzling, multi-tiered stage set that kept television viewers and every set of eyes in the audience clung to the Queen of Pop.
After the performance, R&B’s funk-soul connoisseur Bruno Mars had the privilege of presenting Janet with the prestigious accolade, which she humbly accepted with a laudable speech that radiated the essence of real music royalty. And at 52 years young, Miss Jackson’s first awards performance of 2018 proves that not only is she aging like fine wine, but so is her vocal, dance and stage prowess as well.
Janet stole the night in five minutes with "Nasty" and "Throb," then delivered a powerful speech echoing her support of the Time's Up and Me Too movements
And the internet is standing in awe at melanin's stunning work on the Queen of Pop
