Cee Lo Talks Upcoming Gnarls and Goodie Mob Projects
With his job as a judge on NBC's music competition series The Voice, pending projects from Goodie Mob and Gnarls Barkley (two groups in which he is a pivotal member), and his own ongoing solo tour, Cee Lo is one of the industry's hardest working men. The "F You" singer recently took some time out to talk with Rolling Stone about where he is with his various projects.
“We’ll definitely get together sometime very soon to start talks about what we collectively agree is the new direction for Gnarls Barkley,” Cee Lo said of his Gnarls collaborator, the super producer Danger Mouse. "We talk on occasion and he’s about as preoccupied as I am at the moment, doing other projects. But then again, we might not talk at all and just do it when the time is right because we’ve never discussed it before.”
When it comes to Goodie Mob, the Atlanta collective that nurtured Cee Lo early in his career and which hasn't released a proper LP since 1999, Cee Lo says some tracks for a new album have already been completed and he looks forward to finishing the project.
"We have more than a few songs for the new Goodie Mob album, and I'm proud and passionate about it," he said. "I feel very enthusiastic about being able to give it my full, undivided attention to finish it."
Cee Lo and his The Voice costar Christina Aguilera will perform a tribute to Michael Jackson this October as part of a special concert being put on by the late King of Pop's mother, Katherine.
