Freeway Ricky Ross Gets Another Crack at Rick Ross in Court
Warner Bros. Records could be on the hook in a lawsuit between former drug kingpin "Freeway" Ricky Ross and Maybach Music Group founder Rick Ross after a Los Angeles Superior Court judge rejected the label's attempt to have the case thrown out yesterday, the Hollywood Reporter reports.
Warner partnered with MMG in 2011, exposing the company to Freeway Ricky's outstanding claims that Ross stole his name and identity and used it for commercial gain. A previous claim against Def Jam was thrown out earlier this year because the statute of limitations had passed. Def Jam signed Ross way back in 2005.
While the judge declined to dismiss the lawsuit, it's still not guaranteed to stick. Freeway Ricky Ross has been informed that he needs to add more specific charges against Warner Bros. to the suit within the next 10 days for the company to be held liable. He's promised that doing so will be "no problem."
