North Carolina Mother Claims One of Three PowerBall Lottery Tickets
A North Carolina mother of four has come forward as one of the three winners in the $564 million PowerBall lottery.
“I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I saw the ticket and checked it,” 26-year-old Marie Holmes told an NBC affiliate. Holmes is currently unemployed. She had to quit both of her jobs at McDonald’s and Walmart to look after her children. One of her kids has cerebral palsy and requires extra care.
Holmes’s winning ticket is worth $188 million before taxes — an amount that could be paid to her over a 30-year period. If she chooses to take the money upfront, she will be allotted $127 million. Holmes is set to meet with lawyers and financial advisers before she turns the ticket in.
The other two winners of the jackpot are in Texas and Puerto Rico.
