R&B singer Mya and rap pioneer Darryl “DMC” McDaniels are the latest celebrities to join the NOH8 campaign. Both recently participated in a photo shoot for the grassroots campaign. DMC also filmed a PSA encouraging fellow members of the hip hop community to step forward in support of equal rights. He also called on his rap peers to remove elements of homophobia in hip hop culture. In addition, Mya recently performed at a gay pride event in Los Angeles.

President Obama recently declared June to be Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month. The NOH8 campaign was founded in response to the passing of Proposition 8, which banned same sex marriage in the stage of California. Gay couples in New York are currently awaiting the status of the issue in their own state. The Marriage Equality Act was passed by the New York State Assembly Wednesday evening, 80 to 63. The issue remains in limbo pending a vote in the New York State Senate.
