Former NBA Player Marcus Camby Sued for the Wrongful Death of Autistic Nephew Who Drowned on His Property
Marcus Camby, a longtime NBA player, is being sued for wrongful death regarding his autistic nephew.
We previously reported about the tragic death that occurred during the Thanksgiving holiday last year. The body of 9-year-old Marcus McGhee was found in a lake on Camby’s Houston-area estate after he went missing.
According to ESPN, the boy’s father, Marcus Kendall McGhee, alleges that Camby failed to supervise the child, who he claims knew had special needs. A statement was made by Camby at the time of his nephew’s passing, read in part, “While the outcome was tragic, the outpouring of support has truly touched us all. If God forbid, something like this happens in another family in our community, my family will be front and center with assistance.”
Pearland Police Lieutenant Onesimo Lopez believes the boy died around 7 a.m. on the morning of November 26. Originally, McGhee had been playing with the other kids at the house. He wasn’t noticed missing until after 4 p.m. That’s when they began their search with the help of the local police.
