Epic New Project for O'Shea Jackson Jr.
O'Shea Jackson Jr.'s keeping the shine on his rising star. After playing his own father, Ice Cube, in Straight Outta Compton, the young actor is turning back to historical figures for his second leading role in the upcoming baseball biopic, Dock.
According to Variety, Jackson is set to play the title role of Dock Ellis in the film.
Ellis is remembered as a notoriously outspoken pitcher and was perhaps best known for claiming he was high on LSD when he threw a no-hitter back in 1970. After he retired in 1979, he admitted publicly that he, in fact, never pitched a game sober.
The athlete was highly sought after, having played for the New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates and Oakland Athletics in a career that spanned 10 years. Aside from being a multiple game-winner in the World Series, Ellis fought against racism in baseball before succumbing to drug abuse. He died on December 19, 2008, of a liver ailment at the age of 63.
The film, which will chronicle Dock's many achievements and life course, does not yet have a director or a solid release date. However, it is confirmed that Hacksaw Ridge producer David Permut, Jeff Kwatinetz and Ice Cube are producing from a script by Joey Poach.
