Less than 24 hours after video surfaced of the brutal shooting of Alton Sterling at the hands of police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, another young Black man, Philando Castile, had been shot and killed at point-blank range by a cop. The man's girlfriend captured the immediate aftermath of the grisly shooting in a Facebook Live video.
Castile, a 32-year-old cafeteria worker from Falcon Heights, Minnesota, was driving with his girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, on Wednesday evening when the couple was pulled over for a broken taillight. Diamond's young daughter was sitting in the back seat.
According to Reynolds and eyewitness reports, the cop shot Castile within 30 seconds of pulling him over. Castile was carrying a gun but, Reynolds says, announced to the officer before he reached for his license and registration that he had a weapon and a license to carry. 
"He let the officer know that he had a firearm and he was reaching for his wallet," Reynolds tells the camera. "And the officer just shot him in his arm."

In the video, the officer is heard yelling, "I told him not to reach for it! I told him to get his hand off it!"
"You told him to get his ID, sir," Reynolds responds. "He was just getting his license and registration." 
According to local news, an eyewitness says four gunshots were fired less than a minute after Castile's vehicle was pulled over:

Castile was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, according to Fox 9, where he died a short while later.

Falcon Heights police are not providing many additional details at this point, though they acknowledged seeing Reynolds's video, and said a handgun was recovered at the scene. Protests began almost immediately after news first broke of the shooting, with a crowd gathered at the scene chanting, "we will not move." The group reportedly marched towards the governor's mansion around 2 a.m..
The officer who shot Castile, described by Reynolds as a being of Asian descent has been put on "standard paid administrative leave" according to the police department.
