Kevin-Prince Boateng Leads Team Off Field After Racist Remarks
Black soccer players have once again come under racist attacks on the field. This time, AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng was subjected to racism from the crowd during Thursday's game against Pro Patria.
He and fellow teammates M'Baye Niang, Urby Emanuelson and Sulley Muntari were subject to abuse from the fans, and in the first half, Boateng kicked a ball into the crowd. He then ripped off his shirt and walked off the field with his teammates and players from the opposing team.
"We are disappointed and saddened by what has happened," Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said.
"Milan play for the right to respect all players. We need to stop these uncivilized gestures. We are sorry for all the other fans who came here for a beautiful day of sport. We promise to return, and we are sorry for the club and players of Pro Patria, but we could not make any other decision. I hope it can be an important signal," he continued.
The Italian Football Association will conduct an investigation into the incident. Boateng later took to Twitter to share his disgust over the situation.
"Shame that these things still happen... #StopRacismforever," he wrote.
