Is Waka Flocka Trolling With His Pick For Greatest Rapper Alive?
It’s 2017: a former reality television star is in the White House, Beyoncé is the mother of twins, Tupac actually has a biopic on his 46th birthday, the Kardashian-Jenners are still riding the cultural appropriation wave, the bad gal savage Rihanna has herself a man, and hip-hop’s old school is literally at war with the new school.
But among all that the year has brought us, good and bad, a unanimous decision on the greatest rapper alive still has not been reached. Waka Flocka may be reaching for one of his own, though.
In a Snapchat post captured by The Shade Room, the Brick Squad flagbearer declared G.O.O.D. Music chieftain and hip-hop wunderkind Kanye West as the greatest rapper alive. While his pick may seem to come from left field, a 2015 interview with Waka shows that he’s held high reverence for Yeezy all along. Gearing up for his not-yet-released Flockaveli 2 album, Waka spoke of a possible feature with ‘Ye that he felt he didn’t deserve yet.
Despite earlier tweets from that year suggesting that he did, in fact, have Yeezy and a slew of other hip-hop greats on the album, he revealed that he would like to make his own co-signless mark before collaborating with such big names. The “Hard in da Paint” rapper also offered up a few bars for his own remix of Yeezy’s “Real Friends” in 2016.
Is he spot on with his greatest rapper alive pick below?
