EXCLUSIVE: Kelly Rowland’s New Fabletics Collection Is Designed For Working Moms Who Work Out

Plus, Kelly dishes on her fitness, beauty and self-care tips.

Kelly Rowland is the definition of a multi-faceted momtrepreneur, so it’s crazy to think that she even has the time to prioritize fitness, beauty or self-care! Well, with her newest Kelly Rowland X Fabletics collection, Kelly encompasses every facet of who she is with a fitness wear line made with every woman in mind, especially the moms!

With over 20 years in the game, this former Destiny’s Child member has shown that she doesn’t want to be good at just one thing, because she excels at basically any money move she decides to make. From creating her own music that's loved globally to showing off her acting chops in films and shows such as BET's American Soul, Kelly manages to dabble in different industries while juggling being a working mom. Now she’s taking on her second collection with the active-lifestyle brand Fabletics for Fall 2019. Kelly told BET exclusively why creating another fitness line with Fabletics was important to her and the answer was simple: women’s empowerment.

“The first collection did so well the first time and basically sold out,” Kelly boasts. “And I just love [Fabletics] because they’re all about empowering women, all women. I know that I bugged the Fabletics team, who is amazing, because I really wanted this collection to be just right for every women who wears it. To make women feel confident and also highlight our bodies, because they’re beautiful! I’m happy to have the opportunity to reach more women, especially Black women, with this second collection.”

With bold looks and even bolder names, such as "Conquer" and "Mighty," each piece is perfect for the everyday woman who manages to fit her workout into a busy schedule! And that’s exactly who Kelly had in mind when she was working with Fabletics to design her collection.

“I spoke with the women in my life, especially the moms, and we all agreed that we don’t want to look a mess in the school drop-off line,” Kelly laughs. “So this line is really for the women who have to go from dropping their kids off at school, and may have to go from there to a business meeting, and then from there to the grocery store or any other errands.”

To say these pieces have a dual purpose is definitely an understatement! Each performance-wear piece doubles as lifestyle, athleisure wear with the bright colors and versatile designs, like a bodysuit and a catsuit. We’re definitely going to have to cop one of these pieces. If you’re wondering which designs Kelly likes the most, she loves the sycamore colored "Fearless" ‘fit and the iris and leopard-print "Agility" look.

Kelly is no stranger to the being a working mom who has to somehow fit in time for herself throughout her busy day. The 38-year-old mother of 4-year-old Titus Jewel Witherspoon still manages to get into the gym on top of her multiple responsibilities and she says it’s all about dedication!

“My son is starting to go to school earlier and earlier as he gets older. So I have to wake up by 5:30 in the morning so that I can be in the gym by 6. And I honestly love being in the gym in the morning because I don’t think I’d be able to manage the rest of the afternoon without it! Sometimes you just have to sweat it out!”

Her go-to workout is pilates and let’s just say, it’s definitely paying off. But in a world where everyone is quick to have the perfect snapback after giving birth, she told me that she wishes someone just told her to slow down when she just had her son.

“I wish I paced myself. After I had my son, I was so quick to get back to my old body that I didn’t even appreciate what I just did. Everyone is so quick to have the snapback But I just made a life! My body went through one of the greatest changes and I wish I took the time to appreciate that. So my advice to other women is to just take your time.”

Even though we definitely look to Kelly for our body confidence, she advocates for self-confidence and prioritizing self-care in the Black community. Having people close to her that are honest and open about their own mental health journey, like Michelle Williams, inspires Kelly to destigmatize certain self-care practices, such as meditation.

“For self-care, I take the time to just meditate and be one with my own thoughts. Meditation is one of my top self-care tips that I offer to anyone,” Kelly explains. “I grew up in the church and, in the Black community, meditation was seen as a form of devil worship. It was always met with questions like, ‘Well, who are you talking to?' And it’s not even like that. You’re talking to yourself and clearing your mind of any negativity.”

And, of course, we had to ask Kelly her beauty tips and tricks with her glowing skin and flourishing natural hair. While she credited her natural hair growth to her hair stylist and her silk pillowcase, her love for beauty products started with her late mother, Doris Rowland Garrison, who she says would try every beauty product she could find at the drug store. Kelly continued on this tradition and loves to try everything from different essences, serums and anything else she can find.

“And I also never go to sleep without washing my face,” Kelly admits. “Miss Tina [Knowles] taught me that! Oh, and I try to drink a gallon of water a day. Gabrielle Union is the one who taught me that, because her skin is amazing!”
