LeSean McCoy: Chip Kelly Got Rid of 'All the Good Black Players'
The Philadelphia Eagles releasing Pro Bowl wide receiver DeSean Jackson last summer was a huge shock to football fans.
But the Eagles trading star running back LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills in March — after a 2014 NFL season in which he rushed for 1,319 yards — completely threw fans for a loop.
Having recently been interviewed by ESPN The Magazine, McCoy spoke candidly about Eagles coach Chip Kelly and alleged that he "got rid" of "all the good black players."
"The relationship was never really great," McCoy opened up, explaining about Kelly. "I feel like I always respected him as a coach. I think that's the way he runs his team. He wants the full control. You see how fast he got rid of all the good players. Especially all the good Black players. He got rid of them the fastest. That's the truth. There's a reason. It's hard to explain with him. But there's a reason he got rid of all the black players — the good ones — like that.
"Oh, man. People have heard it. I mean...Stephen A. Smith has talked about it," McCoy continued about Kelly's actions. "Other players have talked about it. But that's one of the things where you don't even care no more. I'm on a new team, ready to play. So it's nothing to do with Chip. I have no hatred toward him, nothing to say negative about him. When he got [to Philadelphia], I didn't know what to expect. When he let DeSean go last year, I was like, 'C'mon. DeSean Jackson?' So it is what it is."

The Eagles were able to sign DeMarco Murray, the NFL's top-rushing running back, in 2014, but Kelly has gotten rid of Jackson, McCoy and Jeremy Maclin in two seasons. All are black players. Compounding this is the fact that the Eagles awarded wideout Riley Cooper a five-year, $25 million deal in February 2014, months after he said the N-word during a country music concert in July 2013. Cooper is white.
On Wednesday morning's ESPN's First Take, Stephen A. Smith spoke about McCoy's comments about Kelly, saying that he heard the Eagles coach went out and acquired Murray because he felt the heat about letting so many Black stars go. In addition, Smith added that he reached out to the Eagles, requesting a sit-down interview with Kelly, but has never gotten a call back.
McCoy and his new Bills squad will visit Philadelphia to face Kelly and the Eagles on December 13.
