Ice Cube, Meek Mill and More Celebrities React To George Floyd's Tragic Death At The Hands Of Police
The death of George Floyd by a Minnesota police officer has devastated much of the Black community. Video of the incident reinforces the fact that the force used to subdue Floyd, who was already handcuffed, was excessive and the direct result of police misconduct. It was eerily familiar, too, reminding many of what was perceived to be an excessive use of force by the New York Police Department in Staten Island, NY that ultimately killed Eric Garner in 2014.
Many on social media are decrying the actions of the police, and the deep systemic evil that claimed another unarmed Black man's life. Ice Cube made waves with his tweet: "How long will we go for Blue on Black Crime before we strike back???"
In response to criticism over his use of the term "strike back," Cube followed up by tweeting, "Anybody coming at me for what I said ain't ready to do s**t …"
Cube's anger is understandable at a time when each new day seems to bring about a new, name generated hashtag seeking justice for a life interrupted because of racist police officers, vigilantes, or those decrying false narratives about their encounters with Black people.
