Congresswomen Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Pressley, and Talib Brilliantly Responded To Trump's Racism

The clapback was strong.

This morning (July 14), Donald Trump woke everyone up with a series of racist tweets in which he suggested a group of progressive congresswomen “go back to where they came from.”

Not only were the tweets blatantly racist, but also wildly stupid considering three of the women – Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rashida Talib (D-MI), and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) – were born in the United States, and Ilhan Omar (D-MI), who was born in Somalia, fled with her family as a child and has been a U.S. citizen for decades.

Here are the tweets in case you missed them:

  • All four women are fighting back and have each clapped back on Twitter in their own brilliant, unique way.

Omar, who Trump has targeted in the past as not being American, says her attempts to protect the U.S. from the president’s horrid agenda is at the root of his hatred for her.

  • Ocasio-Cortez says Trump has to stoke fear because it’s the only way he can institute his racist and divisive agenda and rhetoric.

  • Talib kept her message simple: “He needs to be impeached.”

  • Pressley says this is just the latest example of Donald Trump’s racism and that it won’t stop her from fighting for her constituents.

  • Since Trump’s series of xenophobic tweets, social media has widely condemned his message. Many politicians, including some on the right, have branded the president’s comments what they are: uncalled for and racist.

This latest nasty outburst is right out of Donald Trump’s playbook. Suggesting that an American is un-American to stir up racist fear in his voting base is what he tried to do over and over again with President Barack Obama. It’s also a strategy Donald Trump Jr. attempted just a few weeks ago when he promoted the idea that Sen. Kamala Harris wasn’t African-American.
