Trump Slammed for Tweeting After Another Horrific High School Shooting Left Multiple Students Dead

"Maybe it's time you stop ignoring the issues and actually do something about this gun violence."

As many as ten people were killed in a shooting at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas, on Friday, according to law enforcement officials. After the news of the tragedy broke, President Donald Trump sent a tweet that many considered a weak response.

The Harris County sheriff said the male shooter and an additional suspect are in police custody. Both are believed to be students, reported The New York Times.

Leila Butler, a sophomore at the school, told ABC13, that fire alarms at the school went off at about 7:45 a.m.

Another unnamed student said the gunman entered her art class with what appeared to be a shotgun and began shooting. One student in the class got shot in the leg, prompting her and others to take off running.

At least 12 students are being treated for injuries at three different hospitals.

  • In a tweet, Trump commented on the shooting and said the reports were "not looking good"

President Donald Trump also delivered an address about the shooting during a prison reform summit in the East Room of the White House.

"Unfortunately, I have to begin by expressing our sadness and heartbreak over the deadly shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas," Trump said. "This has been going on too long in our country. Too many years. Too many decades now."

Trump said federal authorities are coordinating with local officials.

"We grieve for the terrible loss of life and send our support to everyone affected by this absolutely horrific attack," Trump added.

  • The president was slammed for tweeting about gun violence instead of taking legislative action

  • Just after the shooting, a Trump supporter armed with a gun showed up to the school

In addition to the shooting, “explosive devices” were found on the campus and in surrounding areas of the school, according to a tweet sent by the Santa Fe Independent School District.

The entire district is on lockdown, according to officials.
