Drake Opens New Club in Honor of His Grandparents

SherClub dedicated to Drizzy's sports-loving legacy.

Who doesn't love a guy who loves his grandparents? Drake paid homage to his by opening a sports/entertainment club in honor of them — and it doesn't look like the kind where you play shuffleboard and bingo. The rapper cut the ribbon at SherClub in Toronto on Saturday night, named after his late maternal grandma and grandpa.
"Rest in peace to my grandparents Rueben and Evelyn Sher," Drizzy wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of himself posed in front of the club's wood-paneled walls. "My grandmother was the first person to ever play catch with me and my grandfather was the biggest sports fan in the world. I opened this club in the memory of both of you. Thank you to the ACC, MLSE, and Ferris. #SherClub #6Side #FightNight"

Evelyn Sher passed away on Thanksgiving Day 2012. Drake was extremely close with his grandmother and she popped up as his muse on a number of projects. He mentioned her in his song “The Resistance” and sung about her on an unreleased track “The Winner,” rapping, “Yeah, and in the name of Evelyn Sher/I’ll forever forgive anybody that never was there/For me, no other woman could ever compare/My angel, I hope heaven’s prepared for whenever you there.”
Evelyn also appeared on the end of Drake’s 2011 song, “Look What I’ve Done.” At the end of the song, Evelyn tells her grandson, “All I can say Aubrey is, I remember the good times we had together and the times I used to look after you and I still have wonderful feelings about that. So God bless you, and I hope I’ll see you.”
