President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are preparing to travel to Africa next month where they will make stops in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania.
During the week-long trip, from June 26-July 3, Obama will reinforce the importance that the United States places on growing ties with countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
This will be carried out by, "expanding economic growth, investment, and trade; strengthening democratic institutions; and investing in the next generation of African leaders," according to a White House statement.
Obama also plans to meet with government, business and civil society, including youth, to discuss "strategic partnerships on bilateral and gloval issues."
