In the battle for the box office, monsters beats zombies.
Pixar's Monsters University topped the charts this weekend with $82 million in ticket sales. The film, voiced by Billy Crystal and John Goodman among others, easily zoomed past Brad Pitt's World War Z. But Pitt still has reason to celebrate, as Z took in a higher-than-expected $66 million and became the actor's biggest box office hit to date. A sequel is already in the works, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Further down the chart, Man of Steel dropped to third place, losing more than half its audience on mixed reviews and strong competition. Star-packed apocalypse comedy This Is the End held on to fourth place and Now You See Me, starring Mark Ruffalo and Morgan Freeman, rounded out the top five.
Next week, Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum storm theaters in White House Down while Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock regulate in The Heat.
