Soulja Boy Rep: $55 Million Jet Story False
Yesterday, the internet was buzzing about Soulja Boy, who had allegedly dropped $55 million to buy himself an over-the-top 21st birthday present: a tricked-out custom private jet. But now it seems that the rumor has come crashing down to earth.
In a statement to the press, Greg Miller, a spokesperson for Soulja Boy, said, "The elaborate rumors circulating about Soulja Boy purchasing a jet for his 21st birthday are grossly overexaggerated and are not true.”
But TMZ, who originally broke the debunked story, charges that the “Crank That” rapper and his team lied repeatedly about the purchase. The site claims that they verified the rumors with a member of his management team named Shai Storm, Souljah’s assistant, and even Souljah himself, who told them, “Hell yeah ... I bought it.”
The rapper didn’t shoot down the rumor on Miami radio station 99 Jamz yesterday either, coyly saying that he was “G5 status” when asked about the lavish purchase.
The fact that this rumor didn’t have any wings doesn’t seem very surprising on hindsight, considering the tepid sales of SB’s last album, DeAndre Way, the recent news of a $26,000 tax lien and his home being foreclosed on last year. Forbes magazine did estimate his worth at $6 million last year, so don’t shed a tear for Soulja, but it seems a private jet is a wee bit too fly, even for him.
