Listen To DaBaby’s New Tribute Project For His Late Brother
DaBaby reflects on his late older brother Glenn Johnson on his just-released new project, My Brother’s Keeper (Long Live G).
The Charlotte rapper announced he’d be dropping his album today (Nov. 20) on Wednesday and shared the official cover artwork and a minute snippet of the title track. In the song, DaBaby reminisces about time he spent with his brother, who passed away at age 34 earlier this month.
“Though you was the oldest so you got it worst / You was the oldest so you got it first,” DaBaby raps on the track. “I was the baby so I got it easy … Feel like a prisoner of my mind, no one to talk to / Never let depression go unchecked, that shit'll cost you.”
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, Johnson was found dead in a parking lot on Nov. 3 near University City. Investigators believe his cause of death was suicide.
On Nov. 5, DaBaby tweeted about the importance of mental health awareness.
“#MentalHealthAwareness. If you can’t get over depression GET HELP, you see a loved one struggling get them help, they refuse the help, MAKE em get treated anyway,” he wrote. “You suffer from PTSD take that shit serious & get help! I’m bouta get a therapist my damn self! #LongLiveG.”
My Brother’s Keeper (Long Live G) features Meek Mill, NoCap, Polo G, and Toosii and is available for streaming on Apple Music and Spotify.
