Summer Walker Responds To Meet And Greet Criticism: 'Please Respect My Space'
Summer Walker has never shied away from displaying her full unadulterated self, for better or worse, to her own detriment as it seems she can’t catch a break.
The 23-year-old singer-songwriter, who has been open about her struggles with social anxiety, caught flack online after one fan shared a negative experience she had during a meet and greet on the singer’s The First & Last Tour.
In the fan’s Instagram caption, the unnamed individual criticized Summer for not being more engaged with fans
The fan wrote that she left the post-concert gathering feeling disappointed after the time of the meet and greet was changed “last minute,” only for fans to be instructed to keep interactions to a minimum.
She further claimed that Walker, whom she 'idolized' up until that point, 'barely spoke to anyone' throughout the entire event
“I knew she was an introvert and kind of closed off but there was no effort in this at all whatsoever,” the fan alleged in the caption. “There was not a care or sense of compassion for all the waiting and money spent into getting to that moment. Granted, I didn’t expect minutes of your time but I at least expected some sincerity.”

As the post gained traction online, Walker responded to the claims with a lengthy post of her own on Instagram on Monday (Nov. 11). She started the post off by thanking fans for “taking the extra time” to come out to see her and bond with her while she’s on tour.
The Over It songstress then explained that she keeps a personal boundary with fans as she can feel other people’s energy. She acknowledged it might be a difficult concept for some to grasp, but it’s necessary for her in order to protect her energy.
“I’m an empath, and that transference of energy from that many people each day would literally KILL me,” she penned to her 1.6 million followers. “There’s a lot of people out here faking the funk with a smile on their face like they got it together but inside you're actually suffering from some sort of traumatic experience, a loss, depressed, fearful, envious or whatever the case may be BUT I CAN FEEL IT. So I ask you please respect my space in those moments.”
Hopefully, Summer can keep pushing through and finish the rest of the tour. She recently opened up about the layers of stress she’s been under since being in the spotlight and recently proclaimed this current tour might just be her first and last.
