The rapper said that she was headed to a dispensary after going to dinner with a group, and they knowingly parked illegally. “We’re not going to be here long because we ain’t supposed to park here,” she recounted.
The next few moments were what shook her to her core
The D.C.-area rapper told Complex: “This guy comes out his house and he’s like, ‘You people!’ he was just being really f**king disrespectful. I heard him clear as day say, ‘We don’t want no problems.’ Out of nowhere, he’s like, ‘Are you trying to threaten me?’ Getting all up in his face.”
The “Fashion Week” artist then said in that moment, she felt like getting out of the car to escalate the situation. However, she realized with the heightened police brutality that the Black community faces, she probably shouldn’t.

“But then I start thinking how f**ked up this sh** is, because nine times out of 10, the police get called on us, not knowing what happened,” she said. “This sh** really made me want to cry because anytime black people try to stick up for themselves, that sh** always escalates and f**ks up their lives. They’re either in police custody and they don’t give a f**k about you, or they do whatever they want to hurt you or have you get shot. It f**ks with your head.”
Reminiscent of the viral internet moments that capture racism behind the cellphone lens, Rico said she was also compelled to record the exchange. “You see it on the internet all the time,” she said, “but when that sh** happens to you over a parking spot, it’s one of them times when you really want to pull your phone out.”
Thankfully, Rico made it out of the situation unharmed.
