Jay Z Reportedly Put His Bid in to Buy Prince's Unreleased Music
Jay Z’s had his hands in a lot different business ventures, and apparently you can add another one to his resumé.
TMZ is reporting that Hov put in a bid to buy all of Prince’s unreleased music unearthed at Paisley Park after the music legend passed away. He’s also met with Prince’s sister Tyka and her husband, Maurice Phillips, several weeks ago.
The offer Jay reportedly made is in the neighborhood of $40 million. That number was confirmed supposedly by someone in the rap mogul’s camp. It’s not going to be easy for Hov or anyone to make the purchase, however. Even if Tyka is down with Jay Z buying her brother’s music, she still has to get the signatures from all of her brothers and sisters, as well as the trust managing his estate.
Jay Z is also in the running to procure the overall deal for streaming rights for Prince’s music. That proposition is also costing him as he’s facing some major competition.
Prince has shown some favorability to Tidal in the past though. In August of 2015, he told Ebony magazine his analysis of the then-budding streaming company.
“Tidal is a new company, it’s brand new,” Prince said. “When there’s a company like that, or the OWN network — situations where we finally get into a position to run things — we all should help.”
