Disgusting: Meghan Markle Was Confronted By Racist Member Of Royal Family During The Queen's Christmas Party
The whispers of racism that have surrounded Meghan Markle — who, on May 19, will become the first "openly" Black member of the British Royal Family — turned into a full-blown shout at the Queen's annual Christmas Lunch over the weekend.
According to reports, Meghan came face-to-face with one of her future in-laws who seemed determined to make her feel uncomfortable, and has the racist rap sheet to leave any doubt as to her intentions at the door.
According to RadarOnline and various British news outlets, one of Meghan's relatives-to-be, Princess Michael of Kent, wore a "Blackamoor" brooch on her lapel where everyone could see it. In case you don't know, the style is all about fetishizing images of slavery and colonialism.
In case you thought this was (eyeroll) an unfortunate oversight, consider Princess Michael's extremely problematic past: In 2004, she reportedly told a group of Black customers in a West Village, NYC restaurant to "go back to the colonies" after she complained that they were being noisy.A few months later, she defended herself by making things worse: "I even pretended years ago to be an African, a half-caste African, but because of my light eyes I did not get away with it, but I dyed my hair black," she said in an ITV interview. The princess added of her trip to Africa, "I had this adventure with these absolutely adorable, special people and to call me racist: it's a knife through the heart because I really love these people."
WTF, indeed. Considering many eyewitnesses have reported that Princess Michael did go out of her way to chat with Meghan at the event (as, we're sure, everybody did), it seems pretty certain that Meghan had to stare at the racist piece of jewelry while they talked.
