Heat Appears to Be Cause of Three High School Football Players' Deaths

Two teenagers in Georgia collapse practice and another football player dies in South Carolina.

Much of the country is experiencing record heat and football camps for high schools, college athletes and the pros are getting started.

It’s a potentially lethal combination that appears to already be taking its toll. A 16-year-old high school football player from Fitzgerald, Ga., died at camp Tuesday. Then, later in the day, a 16-year-old in Atlanta died one week after being hospitalized for what doctors said was heat exhaustion.

Donteria Searcy was found unresponsive after Tuesday’s practice. Last week, Forrest Jones collapsed after voluntary workouts on July 25. He died Tuesday night.

These two deaths came just a couple of days after after Tyquan Xavier Brantley died following football practice in Darlington, SC.
