Chicago Gun Violence: 40 Shot, 5 Killed This Past Weekend
Chicago has reportedly seen an increase in gun violence in April, as the last weekend of the month ended with 40 people shot and five killed, according to NBC Chicago.
One of the victims, Leonore Draper, 32, was found fatally shot in her car shortly after leaving an anti-violence fundraiser to raise money for Project Orange Tree, a group formed by King College students after the death of Hadiya Pendleton last year. She was reportedly struck by bullets in a drive-by shooting on Saturday night.
A 21-year-old woman was killed Sunday night after a group of men opened fire on a vehicle she was riding riding in. She was struck in the left side of her head and pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.
Other deaths reported included a 17-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man on Saturday night and an 86-year-old man who was killed after a dispute with his neighbor on Saturday afternoon.
