News | Michael Vick | Vick’s Cousin Claims Some of the Blame for QB’s Troubles

Posted Aug. 31, 2007 – One of Michael Vick’s cousins is taking some of the blame for Vick’s troubles.

Davon Boddie told listeners of Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 radio station that it was his arrest on marijuana charges outside a nightclub that led police to seek a search warrant of the house where evidence of Vick’s involvement with dog-fighting was first uncovered.

Boddie alleges that police lied about the amount of weed he was carrying in order to justify their warrant, but he also says authorities already had a lead on the dog-fighting that was going on at Vick’s home in Virginia.

He didn’t explain why he gave Vick’s address as his residence, but Boddie says he hasn’t spoken to his cousin since the investigation began, adding, “I wanna tell him to keep his head up.”

Vick pleaded guilty this week to sponsoring a dog-fighting ring known as “Bad Newz Kennels.”  He faces up to five years in federal prison.

The Atlanta Falcons have formally requested that Vick return $20 million of the $37 million in bonus money he received from the team.
