Donald Trump Goes After Designer Tom Ford in Defense of Melania
Back in November, Tom Ford hit The View. Apparently he smelled amazing (his perfumes really are the best), and he was also asked whether or not he’d dress Melania Trump. “I was asked to dress her quite a few years ago and I declined,” he said. “She’s not necessarily my image. The first lady — other than the fact that I’m a Democrat and voted for Hillary and very sad and disappointed that she’s not in office — even had Hillary won, she shouldn’t be wearing my clothes. They’re too expensive. And I don’t mean this in a bad way. [She needs] to relate to everybody.”
Ford joined a group of other prominent designers — including Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam, and Humberto Leon of Opening Ceremony and Kenzo — who stated that they would not dress the first lady. It all started with an open letter from designer Sophie Theallet that urged the fashion industry to steer clear of the Trumps. And the Donald hadn’t commented. Until now.
“[Melania] never asked Tom Ford, doesn’t like Tom Ford,” he said in an interview with Fox and Friends. “Doesn’t like his designs. He was never asked to dress her.”
According to Trump, Wynn Resorts CEO Steve Wynn gave him a call to voice his displeasure with the designer. “[Steve] just called me and he said he thought it was so terrible what Tom Ford said, that he threw his clothing out of his Las Vegas hotel.” There is no Tom Ford clothing store at the Wynn Las Vegas, although they do stock Tom Ford’s aforementioned amazing beauty products.
Trump has yet to weigh on Ford’s movies or perfumes. Or his thoughts that all men should experience penetration.
