Hip Hop Awards 2024: 5 Things Host Fat Joe Does Other Than Rap
Since bursting onto the hip-hop scene in the early 90s, legendary emcee Fat Joe has given us endless hits, including “Lean Back” and the early classic “Flow Joe.” However, the South Bronx native’s success extends beyond the studio.
In honor of him hosting the BET “Hip Hop Awards 2024” for the third time, get familiar with his other notable talents and check out five ventures Joey has pursued outside of rapping, proving he’s more than just a music legend.
Sneaker Retailer
The veteran emcee’s passion for sneakers ultimately led him into business. In 2016, he opened UP NYC, a sneaker and streetwear store in the Bronx.
Actor
Joey’s charisma extends to the screen. The entertainer has starred in several notable projects, including “Empire” and Spike Lee’s reboots of “She’s Gotta Have It,” as well as films such as the 2018 “Nightschool” and “Scary Movie 3.”
Hosting
The BET “Hip Hop Awards” isn’t the only show Joe has hosted.
At the end of what was a wild 2020, the Terror Squad boss launched his self-titled talk show, which, with the help of his celebrity friends, covered several topics, including culture, sports, politics, and more.
Reports say he’s gearing up for another installment sometime in the future.

Health Advocate
When he’s not helping out in his hometown, the emcee frequently discusses the importance of fitness and wellness, especially for Blacka Brown communities.
Most recently, he appeared in a public service announcement by the patient rights group Power to the Patients, calling on politicians everywhere to enforce healthcare price transparency nationwide.
"BET Hip Hop Awards" 2024 will premiere on Tuesday, October 15, at 8 PM ET/PT on BET.
