BET Awards 2022: Why Doja Cat is Proving to be Music Industry’s Next Femme Fatale

What’s your favorite song from the BET Awards 2022 nominated singer-songwriter?

In 2018, singer and songwriter Doja Cat saw viral success after a moment of boredom led to the creation of her surprisingly hit single “Mooo!”. She jokingly sang about being a cow while eating a burger dressed in a two-piece cow print outfit.

However, if fans thought that was the best the L.A. native could’ve offered musically, they were mistaken. Doja Cat took advantage of the spotlight and stretched her 15-minutes of fame into two successful studio albums, including her sophomore project Hot Pink and its follow-up Planet Her.  The latter earned the juggernaut her first Grammy award at the 64th annual event out of 11 nominations and a dozen more accolades. So join us as we check out these five tracks from Doja Cat that prove she’s the music industry’s next femme fatale.

  • “Woman”

A fusion of Afrobeat, pop, and r&b is the foundation for this women empowerment anthem, “Woman,” off Doja’s 2021 third studio album Planet Her.  The song had a slow start—spending several weeks on the chart before cracking the Top 10. However, one year after it debuted, that song reached number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. She later released a visual that paid homage to Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time” visual.

  • "Get Into It (Yuh)"

“Get Into It (Yuh)” is the third song from Doja’s third studio album Planet Her which quickly became a success after the track went viral on the video-sharing app TikTok. A dance choreographed by David Vu triggered the track to re-enter the Billboard Hot 100 at number 75 two months after it initially premiered at number 93.

  • “Say So” — MTV EMA Performance

Following her 2020 performance of a grunge-inspired rendition of her viral single “Say So” at the MTV European Music Awards, it’s safe to say the musical star can not be placed in just one genre.

  • “Kiss Me More” feat. SZA

Doja teamed up with SZA for the hit single “Kiss Me More,” which earned both singers their first career Grammy award for “Best Pop Duo./Group Performance” at the 64th annual ceremony. The track was also nominated for “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year.”

  • “Juicy”

Doja promotes body positivity in this r&b and hip hop single “Juicy” from her debut studio album Amala. It received a remix featuring West Coast rapper Tyga. The song became Doja’s first record to garner significant commercial success.
