Emmy Winner Lena Waithe To Receive Trailblazer Award At MTV Movie And TV Awards
After making history as the first woman of color to win an Emmy Award for comedy writing, Lena Waithe is gearing up to celebrate another win as she is set to be honored at the upcoming 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards with the coveted "Trailblazer" Award.
The honor recognizes game-changing creators with fresh and fearless voices and perspectives in entertainment.
"Lena is shaking up Hollywood and breaking cultural boundaries through her innovative and authentic storytelling," Amy Doyle, general manager of MTV, VH1 and Logo, said in a statement. "Her unwavering passion for equality and inclusion make her the perfect recipient for this year's Trailblazer Award."
Waithe's outstanding resume and list of writing and acting credits aren't her only qualifying factors for this achievement. In addition to her starring role in Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, and writing, creating and executive producing Showtime's The Chi, Waithe also mentors writers through her partnership with The Black List. She also is writing and producing a new pilot, Twenties, which was recently picked up by TBS.
