Gugu Mbatha-Raw Joins Live Action Beauty and the Beast
Gugu Mbatha-Raw will help bring the Disney classic Beauty and the Beast to life. The Beyond the Lights star has joined the cast of the live-action version of the hit musical about a young woman sent to live with a reclusive hulk who reveals himself to be a prince after she falls in love with him.
Mbatha-Raw will reportedly play the role of Plumette, the feather duster, according to Variety. Emma Watson and Dan Stevens will star in the film’s title roles. Oscar winner Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Chicago) will direct the reboot of the 1991 classic, which is expected to include the original songs sung by the main cast, and production will begin later this year.
Beauty and the Beast is the latest classic musical to get the live-action treatment, following the success of Cinderella this year. Last week, Disney announced plans for a live action Pinocchio.
