Nas's Illmatic Documentary to Open Tribeca Film Festival
Time Is Illmatic, a new documentary chronicling the impact of Nas's groundbreaking debut, will open this year's Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, KarenCivil.com reports.
God's Son will be on hand to introduce the film and perform the entire Illmatic album, following the screening. The film is the brainchild of first-time filmmakers One9 and Erick Parker. "I want to thank the Tribeca Film Festival for supporting the film with the incredible platform they've built over the years. It's an honor to premiere the film in my hometown," the Queens-born MC said in a statement.
"I also want to thank One9 and Erik Parker for their persistence and hard wok," he added. "Those guys and I come from the same place and era, which gives the doc an authenticity that is important to me. We wanted this film to represent the real, from the storyline all the way down to the directors and producers."
Nas is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Illmatic this year, setting off on a national tour and dropping a special edition two-disc LP titled Illmatic XX on April 15, in addition to the new flick.
The Tribeca Film Festival runs from April 16-27.
