Wendy Williams Breaks Silence on Guardianship and Well-Being in New Interview
Wendy Williams made a rare public statement on Friday’s episode of “The View,” calling into the show to discuss her well-being and ongoing guardianship.
In a pre-taped phone interview, Williams spoke with co-hosts Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin. The series' moderator, Whoopi Goldberg, was not present due to a contractual agreement.
During the call, Williams confirmed that she is currently living in a memory care facility. “I stay in the bedroom the majority of the time,” she shared. “I’m on the memory unit floor where the people are 90 and 80 and 70. I’m 60.”
The industry veteran also addressed her guardianship, explaining that she had undergone an independent evaluation and does not believe she should be under legal control. “It was my choice to get an independent evaluation on my incapacitation, which I don’t have it,” the former host stated.
Expressing frustration over her current legal situation, she added, “I’ve been doing important things all of my life, and these two people don’t look like me, they don’t dress like me, they don’t talk like me, they don’t act like me.” Williams concluded with an emotional plea: "I need them to, on my knees, get off my neck.”
Hostin, who previously worked with the star during her radio days, took a moment to acknowledge her impact. “Thank you for giving me my start,” she said, referring to her time as a legal analyst on Williams’ show.
Williams has faced many personal and health struggles in recent years, leading to the end of “The Wendy Williams Show” in 2022.
While she continues to navigate her guardianship battle, her recent public comments show she is determined to advocate for herself and regain control of her life.
