Tiger Woods Commits to Playing in Frys.com Open
In an effort to sharpen his game prior to the Presidents Cup in November, Tiger Woods confirmed Monday he will compete in the Frys.com Open, Oct. 6–9, in San Martin, Calif.
The Frys.com Open will mark Woods' first event since failing to make the cut earlier this month during the PGA Championship. That also eliminated Woods from the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Most figured Woods would lay low until the Australian Open in early November, but after receiving the official invite for the Presidents Cup last week, Woods decided to jump into the PGA Fall Series at the Corde Valle Golf Club. Woods also needs the course time having missed a great deal of the season due to his leg injuries that kept him off the tour for three months.
"I always enjoy competing in my home state, and this tournament fits my schedule perfectly," Woods said on his website. "I'm looking forward to seeing some old friends."
This will be Woods’ first appearance in the five-year-old Frys.com event and from all indications he has picked one of the more exciting tournaments.
Most have not forgotten last year’s edge of your seat finish at the Frys.com Open in which Rocco Mediate squeaked by Bo Van Pelt and Alex Prugh for a one-stroke win.
"John Fry and his company have supported the tour, and I've heard good things about the event and the golf course," Woods said. "One of my goals this year was to participate in a tournament I hadn't played before, and now, I will."
