Hip Hop Awards 2022: Get Familiar with Tracks from ‘Best Duo or Group’ Winner EARTHGANG
Dreamville’s EARTHGANG took home the “Best Duo or Group” at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards hosted by Fat Joe. The “WATERBOYZ” music beat out several equally talented acts including Big Sean and Hit-Boy, Styles P and Havoc, and 42 Dugg and EST Gee, just to name a few. Now that they’ve earned the prize, it’s time for fans to get to know the duo.
“Up”
“UP” is the fourth single for EARTHGANG’s third studio album, Mirrorland. The track was initially teased in September of 2018 on YouTube as a part of a popular video segment called A COLORS SHOW, created by media company COLORS Studios. As of October 2022, the video has been viewed over 4.7 million times.
“WATERBOYZ”
Labelmates EARTHGANG, JID, and J. Cole, unite on this laid-back record off their 2019 Dreamville collaborative effort Revenge of The Dreams III. The record finds the trio discussing various topics, including hustling, wanting materialistic things, and the culture of young men in their hometown of Atlanta, Ga, sans North Carolina native Cole.
“Meditate”
EARTHGANG’s 2019 single “Meditate” served as the lead and opener of their EP, Rags. The song takes a more serious approach as it discusses the difficulties of being a Black man in America and appropriation. The project also received a guest verse from brother-in-music JID and social media comedian and actor D.C. Young Fly, who appears towards the tail end of the track.
