Lil Wayne Nabs iTunes First Week Sales Record
Well, that didn't take long.
Just three weeks after Jay-Z and Kanye West broke the iTunes first-week sales record, Lil Wayne has come along and broken it all over again.
The Young Money/Cash Money star has sold over 300,000 copies of his new album, Tha Carter IV, via the digital retailer in just the first four days of release, according to Cash Money/Universal Republic Records. By contrast, Jay's and 'Ye's Watch the Throne sold 290,000 in its first full week on iTunes.
The iTunes record is particularly impressive for Wayne because his album is concurrently available at retail stores everywhere, whereas Watch the Throne was an iTunes exclusive for its first four days.
According to industry analysts, Tha Carter IV is also on track to replace Watch the Throne as the second fastest selling album of the year. The blockbuster release is predicted to sell upwards of 850,000 copies in its first week, placing it just below Lady Gaga's 1.1 million for Born This Way and well ahead of The Throne's 436,000.
