Bobby Womack Diagnosed with Colon Cancer
Bobby Womack, who was hospitalized over the weekend with pneumonia, has been diagnosed with colon cancer, according to his friend and fellow music legend Bootsy Collins.
Collins took to his Facebook page to break the news.
“I JUST SPOKE TO OUR FRIEND BOBBY WOMACK. He Wanted You All to Know That He Loves You & Thxs for the Prayers. Docs Says He Is In 1st Stage of Colon Cancer, He is Very Up Beat About His Future, we laughed & joked before we hung up. Thxs Funkateers, we will get him Back on the One,” he wrote.
On Saturday, Collins played a similar role in relaying news about Womack to the public via social media. He informed fans of the "If You Think You're Lonely Now" singer's hospitalization via Twitter.
Womack, a prolific and iconic vocal talent throughout the '70s and '80s, has previously suffered from prostate cancer and drug addiction. In 2010, he received interest from a new generation of fans thanks to his collaboration with the genre-bending UK supergroup Gorillaz. He has ben recording a new album, The Bravest Man in the Universe, with the band's frontman Damon Albarn.
The Bravest Man in the Universe is set to be released in June.
