Here’s How Big Sean Feels About 2 Chainz Claiming He Had The Best Verse On ‘Mercy’

The two rappers both claim their bars were the hottest fire on the track.

It’s a debate that pops enough often enough in hip-hop circles: who had the best verse on the hip-hop smash hit “Mercy?”

  • A smash hit at the time of its release on G.O.O.D Music’s collaborative album, Cruel Summer, the track featured Big Sean, Pusha T, 2 Chainz and Kanye West, who rap fans have argued laid down some of their best bars on “Mercy.”

Last week, 2 Chainz inserted himself into the discussion when he posted an image that posed the question of who had the best verse on the song on his Instagram page. “No disrespect but I kilt all dem boys [sic],” he answered in the caption.

  • His comments came to Big Sean’s attention, who respectfully disagreed with the claim on a recent episode of The Rap Pack podcast. The Detroit rapper said he “immediately called” his rap compatriot once he caught wind of the claim.

“I called him like, ‘Yo, what the f**k you talking about, bro?’ He was like, ‘Nah, nah. I wasn’t talking about you bro. I was talking about the whole [rap] game. Obviously, everyone one there was going crazy.’ I’m like, ‘Well, that’s not how it seemed.’ He was just like, ‘Nah, bro,’” Sean recollected.

  • He continued, “As far as ‘Mercy’ goes, I was the first one who did my verse on the song. It was just the beat and I freestyled my verse. I did it without trying, and Kanye was the one who loved it so much. I just remember always being in the studio and him telling everybody [who] was on the song, ‘That n**** Sean went crazy.’”

Sean added that he “set the tone on that song without even trying,” which is why he took issue with 2 Chainz’s remark. Nonetheless, he made it clear that there were no hard feelings between them and 2 Chainz took the situation in stride without “any objections.”

“I was about to be like, ‘n****…’cause you know I’ve done a lot of songs with 2 Chainz... I was about to be like, ‘Oh ok, I got you on K.O. and All Me, and Big Bank,” Sean noted, chuckling.
