Chicago Gun Violence: 3 Dead, 12 Wounded This Past Weekend
Three people were killed and 12 were wounded in gun violence across the city of Chicago during this past Columbus Day weekend, according to the Chicago Tribune. Three men in their twenties were victims in the shootings that began on Friday and continued through Sunday evening.
Roddy Comer, 20, was standing on a sidewalk next to a 16-year-old when he was shot in the back and the buttocks by an armed suspect who walked up to the two males Friday night. Comer succumbed to his injuries and died at a nearby medical center hours later.
Eddie Taylor, 22, was shot in the face during a shootout at a party early Saturday in the West Garfield Park area. Officials confirmed he died at the scene of the incident. The third victim, Juan Mercado, 25, was shot while sitting on a porch in the Belmont Cragin area Sunday night. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, the Tribune reports.
As of Oct. 14, 2014, there have been 282 victims to gun violence in Chicago, according to data compiled by Red Eye Chicago homicide tracker.
